The Asus PadFone X Review

Phone + Tablet In One

• DynamicDisplay – 5” Full HD LTE smartphone <-> 9” Full HD LTE tablet
• One data plan – Use the phone’s data plan to access the Internet in tablet mode
• Battery – The battery in the tablet station charges the smartphone when docked for 2x longer battery life
• PixelMaster Camera – 13-megapixels for clear day photos and light sensitivity by up 400% for vivid night photos
• Powerful Processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3GHz quad-core processor

ASUS' Padfone X promises seamless switching between phone and tablet modes, but the company's execution doesn't live up to expectations. While some might like the curious combo for its low price tag, most people would be better served by two separate devices. PadFone X held the function of ASUS's unique leading and innovative design. It is an effortless convergent device combining technology and style. It removes the redundant data syncing and duplication of data plans, providing users with an incredibly light and uncompromised premium experience. With PadFone X, you can enjoy the options of different screen sizes.

Both the smartphone and tablet feature a stunning 1080p Full HD Super IPS display with vibrant colors, inky blacks and ultra-wide viewing angles. Full HD output to external displays is also supported via the MyDP (Mobility DisplayPort) interface. And the PadFone X supports PMA wireless charging which eliminates the need for clumsy power cable connections.

The PadFone's concept has redefined the boundaries of what's possible with a smartphone and tablet. PadFone X features the unique ASUS-developed DynamicDisplay technology. It is a powerful technology that switches effortlessly between a 5'' Full HD LTE smartphone and a 9'' Full HD LTE tablet with applications automatically adjusting for both displays. The unique two-in-one nature of PadFone removes the need to tediously synchronize data between smartphone and tablet. All of your movies, music and photos are right where you left them, creating a smooth and rapid transition between devices. All storage is inside the phone, eliminating the need for synchronization when the phone is docked. PadFone X can run installed applications in both phone and tablet mode, automatically resizing or changing the layout of each application's user interface to fit the screen size.

Powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 Quad-core 2.3 GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, the PadFone X is smooth and responsive in today's most demanding apps, and designed for the next-generation apps of tomorrow.

The PadFone X offers up to 20 hours of talk time, and increases to up to 54 hours when docked into PadFone X Station. PadFone X Station's built-in battery also has sufficient capacity to fully recharge the docked PadFone X twice over. It's designed for flexibility and convenience, with even longer periods away from main power. The PadFone X comes with 16GB of onboard storage capacity, plus the Micro SD slot to increase your device's capacity by up to 64GB.

ASUS SonicMaster technology developed by the ASUS Golden Ear Team provides superior sound with enhanced frequency and audio clarity. It allows you to enjoy smooth, rich, and detailed audio in music, movies, voice calls, and even gaming right from your phone. It employs sophisticated audio processing from Waves for incredible sound quality from both smartphone and tablet. It is a combination of superior hardware and software designed to deliver the ultimate sound experience

The PadFone X features a high-performance 13-megapixel PixelMaster camera with a bright f/2.0 five-element lens that captures incredibly detailed images with no shutter lag. The dedicated image signal-processor enhances low-light image quality and enables you to capture up to 100 sequential photos at a blisteringly quick 8fps, while simultaneously recording 1080p Full HD video at 30fps. PixelMaster is a unique ASUS-developed technology that combines software, hardware and optical design to deliver incredible image quality. With PixelMaster, your smartphone can produce professional quality photos and, best of all, it's with you all the time so you can capture every moment.

With an application such as the SuperNote, it supports real-time handwriting to text conversion. It is an easy-to-use application which brings you an interactive experience by letting you take notes anywhere and sharing them in a variety of format. Multiple styles and formats are available to fit your needs. The latest version of SuperNote supports real-time handwriting to text conversion, while to-do lists can be managed with voice input.

Pros:
-- Camera: The Gear's 1.9-megapixel camera also shoots 720p HD video for up to 10 minutes.
-- Display: The Gear's screen may measure a scant 1.63 inches, but the 320 x 320-pixel resolution ALOMED display is gorgeous.
-- Speakerphone: Throw in support for Samsung's S Voice command system and you have a watch you can talk to all day long.
-- Find My Phone: If it's within range (about 30 feet), the Gear can be used to set off an alarm to find the misplaced phone.

Cons:
-- Smartphone Dependent: You need to be within 30 feet of your smartphone to get those. Worse, it will only work with the new Galaxy Note 3 smartphone at first. No Note 3, no Gear.
-- No Wi-Fi:
-- Cumbersome Charger: The charger for the device snaps on like a protective shell. It protects the Gear while it is charging, but renders much of the device useless because it obstructs the Gear's only button.
