How To Protect Your Money During Ghost Month

Ghost Month is upon us, which according to Chinese tradition is when hungry ghosts roam the earth causing bad luck and mischief and even disasters. One of the possible casualties during Ghost Month is one’s finances, whether it’s money being lost for various reasons, deals going sour, or purchases turning out to be failures! Here’s how you can protect your money during Ghost Month.

The Dont’s

They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this is very true during Ghost Month. Here are the things you shouldn’t do during this uncertain and dangerous period.

1.)    Major purchases – big purchases like cars, houses, properties, jewelry, are not recommended during this period. Bad luck may cause the cars to be lemons, the house to be rife with damage and repairs, jewelry may devaluate or even turn out to be fake!

2.)    Major sales – the same as purchases, selling big ticket items may end up to be disastrous during this time. Your house may end up being sold under proper value, property appraisals may be low or downright wrong, and so on.

3.)    Travels and vacations – avoid traveling far and away on vacations, especially if much spending is planned or expected. You may end up way overbudget and spend more than planned without noticing, and may even lose money during travels, whether via theft or some other means.

4.)    Late night outs – avoid spending too much money at night, from partying and drinking or even just dining out. Similar to traveling, you may end up spending more than planned, and not only that, attract bad luck and misfortune, in the form of lost wallets, muggings from criminals, and even possession of hungry ghosts who will be attracted by your money.

5.)    Pick up money from the street – it may be attractive to pick up money from the street to bring home, but don’t do it if you see it. It will bring bad luck and can cause financial troubles despite the precautions made above.

The Do’s

Prevention is not just the way to protect one’s money during Ghost Month. Being proactive is also key. Here are the things that need to be done to protect your money.

1.)    Burn joss paper – joss paper offered on the sidewalk in front of the home, right on the front step, or anywhere that can easily be accessed, will appease the hungry ghosts. Not only will it be a gesture of good will, but will be a substitute to them taking your actual, real money.

2.)    Donate to charity – donating to charitable organizations or good causes will build up positive karma, which in turn will bring you fortune after the Ghost Month is over. While this may sound like buying karma, do note that “donating” to charity can be done many ways, from volunteering to donating old clothes, and may not necessarily mean monetary support.

3.)    Wear amulets, install protections at home – keep the luck and good vibrations in the home and away from the prying hands of hungry ghosts by installing numerous protective items inside and outside. Our guide here can help. As well, wearing talismans will keep your financial fortune intact!

4.)    Perform incense offerings – the incense offering rituals can keep the hungry ghosts at bay and can bring divine protection from misfortune and bad luck.

Follow these tips and you’ll make sure your money stays in your wallet and bank account, and not in the hands of the hungry ghosts! As well, improving your mindpower can also attract money and good fortune. Listen to this binaural beats track for money to help you with this!

How To Protect The Home During Hungry Ghost Month

Ghost Month is upon us, and as we discussed previously, for the next 30 days, hungry ghosts will be in our realm, causing havoc and misfortune to many people if they are not appeased or avoided. We have compiled general tips on how to keep safe during this time in our previous blog post, but there is one specific place that needs extra attention: the home! And there is no other place where the hungry ghosts want to go to than the houses where we live, because of their envy of how we are still able to enjoy earthly pleasures while they can’t.

Reinforcing the home

The home needs to be protected, and right fully so, since our loved ones, our possessions, and our security depends on it! And here are some tips to protect the home during ghost month:

1.)    Install bright colors – change the curtains, sheets, and even lights to bright red and orange colors, can counterbalance the negativity the hungry ghosts bring. Curtains on window rooms are quite critical, as it can also serve to ward off some of the weaker ghosts from entering.

2.)    Install red lanterns – red lanterns  serve as beacons of positivity and wards against hungry ghosts, which is especially useful at night. Install the red lanterns near windows and beside the main entrance of your home, in order to discourage the hungry ghosts from trying to come in.

3.)    Perform the incense offering ritual – the incense offering ritual is a powerful way to appease the hungry ghosts, and are supposed to be done as often as possible, right before sunset before darkness comes. The incense ritual should be done outdoor, just outside the main entrance of the home, and should be left there to burn.
But sometimes, these precautions are not enough. Many people still feel uneasy despite these precautions and when this happens, it means more need to be done. This is where the talismans and guardians come in.

Feng Shui Talismans, Guardians, and Wards

The following are examples of Feng Shui protection that can be used to keep the home safe and sound during ghost month.

1.)    The Standing Kwan Kung – one of the most famous generals in Chinese history, his apotheosis to God of War has turned him into a powerful guardian against hungry ghosts. His powers of combat and wealth keeps the ghosts at bay, and the luck within the home. Keep his image displayed facing the front door so his fearsome gaze can deter ghosts and negativity away. The more ferocious his statue or picture is, the better.

2.)    The Chung Kwei – this guardian is dubbed as the ghost catcher, and is able to chase wandering spirits away. Not only that, he is able to provide strong protection against Yin energy when in the home, and can drive away other ghostly presences. His symbol, bats, are a symbol of great happiness and good fortune.

3.)    The Cosmic Tortoise – the universal tortoise has the ability to stop wandering spirits from even trying to enter the house, especially when placed in an elevated platform in the home. Hang the tortoise near the entrance of the home and you will be well protected.

4.)    The Fu Dogs – this pair of dogs, placed in an elevated position on both sides of the door, keeps evil at bay and keeps luck in. They come in male and female couples.

5.)    The Seven Stars Sword – one of the most powerful tools against the hungry ghosts and wandering spirits, the Seven Stars Sword is placed in the office or in the bedroom, and can help protect you as you sleep when you are most vulnerable. It is a powerful weapon and as such has to be placed in the most important areas of the home or office, to keep bad Yin energies at bay.

6.)    La Zha – perhaps the most powerful guardian, La Zha is the guardian of Magic and is said to be the most effective against hungry ghosts and wandering spirits. The best place to put him is near the home’s front door, where his magic is most powerful and most felt by the hungry ghosts wanting to enter.

How To Prepare For And Stay Safe During Ghost Month

Chinese culture has permeated into many aspects of modern living, from economic aspects like global manufacturing, to health and medicine like Eastern Healing techniques, to something more down to earth like Chinese food. And some spiritual aspects, like Feng Shui, have been accepted by many cultures and societies, and with it, the need to be very cautious of the month of August, known in Chinese tradition as “Ghost Month.”

What is Ghost Month?

Known throughout Asia specifically as the “Hungry Ghost Month” or “Zhong Yuan Jie”, August is a time to appease Hungry Ghosts and wandering spirits, when it is believed that spirits, especially those with unfinished businesses or those who have not received proper burial rites, become stronger and more free to roam our realm, where they try to relive their lives –trying to eat food or trying to engage in earthly pleasures- for a whole 30 day period.

This is critical as this is a time when you may experience an increase of ghostly or paranormal activity, which are associated with an increase in “Yin” energies, as well as a rise in the rate of crime, deaths, medical ailments and problems, as well as economic and financial troubles, like troubles at work, or inexplicable spending.

The term “Hungry Ghost” refers to the need for these ghosts and spirits to be “fed” and appeased in order to avoid the misfortune that follows in their wake, which can leave you with a weak Qi, a decrease in luck, and more.

But all is not lost. There are ways  to avoid the misfortunes and malevolent troubles of Ghost Month.

The Ayurveda Experience will give you the insights to live a healthier, happier life!

What to do and not do
1.)    Be extra vigilant inside and outside your home – it is important to protect the home from evil spirits and from bad luck. Generally, you have to make your home very bright, by keeping lights on especially in corners,  changing the colors of your sheets and curtains to bright “Yang” colors like reds and oranges, and installing Feng Shui charms, especially on your doors.  Both inside and outside your home, trust your inner instincts and gut feelings. If you feel like there is danger abound, avoid the area. If you feel like a spirit is near you, command them to go away and begin praying. As well, avoid doing activities at night, if possible.

2.)    Avoid doing major personal and financial changes – don’t open a new business, don’t get married, don’t engage in a new relationship, don’t do major home renovations, don’t make big purchases like real estate and automobiles, don’t start a new huge project, don’t take long trips abroad or within the country, don’t throw major parties. All of these things will attract the attention of the Hungry Ghosts, who will be jealous, and cause them to ruin your efforts and bring you misfortune.

3.)    Provide offerings, or place wards – most of the ghosts that arise during Hungry Ghost Month are not really demonic in nature, but rather, human ghosts who have not passed on and simply are angry and jealous of the living. They can be appeased with offerings of incense to keep them calm, with the incense offering ritual being a very powerful way to remove the misfortune and bad luck caused by the hungry ghosts. It is advised that this be done as often as possible, usually around dusk before night settles in. Red lanterns are also advised as wards to keep the hungry ghosts at bay, and are placed outside the house near doorways and windows. In terms of the physical misfortunes brought by the month, it is important to reinforce the locks on doors and windows, replace fading lights on the porch, and make sure that any back or side entrances are properly secure.

And one last thing. If you encounter other people’s offerings or wards, don’t make negative comments about them, as the hungry ghosts may take offense!

Remember these things, and stay safe during Hungry Ghost Month. And another way to stay  safe during Ghost Month is to increase your luck, which is what this binaural beats track for luck does!

Jupiter is known for good luck, spiritual teachings, higher knowledge and success. It represents growth, creative power, prosperity and good health. With a binaural beat mix of 0.5-4Hz, found in the Delta wave, and a carrier frequency of 183.58, which is associated with the orbit of Jupiter itself, this meditative music aids with anti-aging, deep sleep and taps the deeper levels of our subconscious as we search for divine knowledge and personal growth. Relax, listen, and feel the bliss.
