Cats And The Supernatural: Their Connection To The Spirit Realm And The Paranormal

** WARNING: Please do not pick up or adopt black cats for Halloween, only return them or kick them out after your costume party. If you cannot love them, don’t get them. **

Cats have always been treated with respect, some even reverence, by many cultures and civilizations throughout history. Not only because they are cute and loveable, but also because they have displayed uncanny abilities and skills that are often associated with the supernatural and the paranormal. Even today, our pet cats may display something that you might not be able to easily explain, and when that happens, it may be something related to the supernatural.

But why?

Otherworldly Senses

A cat’s senses are razor sharp, sometimes even otherworldly, from its sense of smell, to its sense of touch. But two important senses are critical in being able to be attuned to the supernatural: sight and hearing.

Throughout history it was believed that cats can sense auras and energies far better than any other animal, including humans of course. Scientifically, a cat’s eyesight is truly above a human’s; they can gather what little light is present and can see in the dark. But for followers of the paranormal, this also means that a cat can see auras, both of the living and the dead. While the human eye or cameras may “see” a spirit as a light anomaly or a shadow figure, a cat will see it as if it had flesh and bones, and will react accordingly. Some claim that when a cat is staring out the window not making a sound, it is seeing something we can’t.

The same can be said of its hearing. A cat’s sense of hearing can hear a rat’s squeak from yards and yards away, but according to some, this also means it can hear paranormal sounds much clearer.  The faintest sounds captured by the human ear or in electronic voice phenomena (EVP) form in electronic devices, are easily heard by a cat’s.

In addition, it is also said that a cat can sense and influence electro-magnetic energy. Scientifically, this could be attributed to its hunting skill; like a shark who can sense electrical signals in water, a cat has the same skill. Electromagnetic fields are emitted by living beings, and a cat can sense this.

But paranormal researches attribute electromagnetic fields (EMFs) as a sign that a supernatural entity is present, and if this is truly the case, then a cat can perfectly sense spirits, perhaps much better than any electronic device.

However, cats can’t just sense EMFs, they can influence them too. Perhaps due to their fur, or perhaps due to their own life energy, cats can affect the EMF fields of the vicinity. This is perhaps why many people feel so relaxed and calm and at peace when a happy cat is present, and uneasy and feel foreboding when an upset cat is around.

So the next time your cat acts a certain way, take notice.

Cats Of Different Times And Cultures

Ancient Egypt may be the place where cats have been placed at such reverence that it rivals human priests of their time. In addition to keeping the granaries rat-free, it was believed that cats are conduits to the gods, can help predict the future, and guards the living from the denizens of the underworld. A cat was treated like a family member that upon death, they are mummified and placed in their own resting places, often together with their masters.

In ancient China, the cat is a goddess, and in ancient Japan (even up to now), they carried luck and attracted wealth, and warded off bad spirits out on sea and on land.

In Europe, the cat is a guardian of life, often attributed to their hunting and consumption of rats that can spread disease. But they can also be attributed to death, which is why witches and warlocks had cats as familiars, and in Transylvania, Romania, and Hungary, a cat is supposed to be able to reanimate a corpse into a vampire!

From ancient times to modern times, cats have been considered special, and they will continue to be treated as such. Sensing auras, giving feelings of warmth and love, and generally just being adorable pets! So this Halloween, don’t recklessly get a black cat for your party. If you can’t love them, don’t get them!
